Night Grows Weary
_____
New Year
New moon
New light
Heavy has the sun hung low
As if ice has pressed her down
As if night is winning
the arm wrestling competition
But a glimmer in her eyes says
“it’s not over yet”
Night grows weary
The cold tires of itself
They miss their friend
who brings the pleasure
of blossoms and dew
Who brings extra buoyancy to the air
So that birds, butterflies, and bees
float more freely
The first heads of grass
are already peeking:
“Are you here yet?”
She winks and replies,
“Almost”
