Icicle Sky
_____
Icicle sky
Winter stillness
I stand stretched
Between you
and a world that asks us to
Make Something of Ourselves
Between my longing to belong
And my need to pause
So I stop
Let the waters settle
Again
Until my lake reflects the stars
I have gathered only meager twigs
on this short, stark day
But soon I will carry them home
To feed the embers
nestled like rubies
in the ash of yesterday
